  • Reflections From Crown Church on the Death of HM Elizabeth II 08th September 2022

Many across the nation and around the world will mourn the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who sadly passed away this afternoon.

We believe that it’s fitting that we give thanks to God for her extraordinary life of dedicated service.

For many in the UK and around the world, the Queen represented continuity, stability and even national identity in a world of constant change and more recently increasing polarisation. Her life saw world wars and economic crises come and go. Her 70 year reign saw her advise 15 Prime Ministers, providing leadership and wisdom.

On learning of the death of her father, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth said “Pray for me…that God may give me the wisdom and strength to carry out the solemn promises I shall be making, and that I may faithfully serve Him and you, all the days of my life.” Unashamed of her faith, the Queen boldly followed through on her promises and leaves behind a huge legacy, as Head of State, Head of The Commonwealth, great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, aunt and sister. Her work with countless charities, representing the UK in numerous settings, all marks a life of dedication and faithful service.

It’s entirely appropriate that we give thanks for the life of the Queen and pray for her family at this time. We pray that they, along with everyone who is mourning loss in this season, experience the comforting presence of the Father of Compassion; the God of all comfort.
