  • Foundations

Every day this week, we'll be delving into the first three chapters of Ephesians to inspire and unite our prayer. We'll also be gathering to pray together at 6pm on Sunday, 8pm on Tuesday and 8pm on Wednesday at the Living Room.

BLESSED BE THE GOD AND FATHER OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, WHO HAS BLESSED US IN CHRIST WITH EVERY SPIRITUAL BLESSING IN THE HEAVENLY PLACES, EVEN AS HE CHOSE US IN HIM BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD, THAT WE SHOULD BE HOLY AND BLAMELESS BEFORE HIM. (EPH 1:3-4)

The Father’s resolution is our foundation

It’s easy to rush resolutely into a new year, keen to start new things; to progress; to build. But first we need to make sure the foundations are right. These two verses at the start of Paul’s letter reminded the believers in Ephesus that they are part of a story that began before the universe was created and will continue into eternity. God chose us before the foundation of the world. Before any other resolutions were written, we were chosen to be in Christ. Before the laws of physics and biology, before the dance of atoms and planets, before the first creatures were conceived, God decided that we would be in Christ; and that one day we should stand holy and blameless before Him. Before anything else was true about you.

Let’s not forget that our position in Christ is not because of anything we’ve done. Our position is His decision and His design. Our Father has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing, no limited access with in-app payments, we can enjoy all that Jesus has earned. Everything that we have earned was spent on Him on the Cross. Our account has been deleted forever, now we have His username and password, and we can ask the Father for anything.

    Prayer Prompts

    1) Thank Jesus for paying the debt of your sins on the Cross. Praise the Father for laying the foundations for salvation before anthing else in creation.

    2) Pray for more people to hear and respond to the gospel at Crown this term.

    3) Come and pray for the new congregations tonight (Sunday), 6pm at the Living Room. (High Street Cowley, UB8 2DZ)
